Building Ethical Foundations: MBA Top-Up Students Complete Research Ethics Requirements at the University of Gloucestershire

By MBA

At the University of Gloucestershire, ethics are at the heart of academic practice and leadership development. This week, three of our new MBA Top-Up students reached a key milestone as they successfully completed their Research Ethics Form—an essential step before embarking on their dissertation journey.

As part of the process, students are required to carefully read the University of Gloucestershire Research Ethics Handbook of Principles and Procedures. This handbook provides a clear framework for understanding the principles of ethical research, including respect, integrity, transparency, and accountability. With this foundation, students then complete a self-assessment checklist and respond to a series of structured questions in the Research Ethics Form.

Far from being a bureaucratic exercise, this process encourages students to critically reflect on how their projects may impact participants, organizations, and society at large. It requires them to consider issues such as confidentiality, informed consent, potential risks, and the responsible handling of data.

By engaging in this structured reflection, our MBA students are learning to integrate ethical thinking into their decision-making—a skill that will be invaluable not only for their dissertations but also in their professional careers. Leaders who practice transparency and responsibility in research are more likely to foster trust, sustainability, and social impact in the workplace.

We congratulate our three MBA Top-Up students for completing this important requirement. Their commitment demonstrates the University of Gloucestershire’s vision of shaping ethical, reflective, and responsible leaders for the future.
